Karen Vahouny Consulting
Principal and Owner
Karen Vahouny began her career in the corporate world and became the first vice president of corporate communications for PRC, a $750 million information technology firm. The company, originally a NYSE-listed corporation, went through several mergers and acquisitions, including ownership by Black & Decker and Litton, before being broken up and sold to other companies. Following that, she became a founding partner of a startup that eventually grew to became one of the top five independently owned PR firms in the country. Qorvis Communications (now part of MSL Group) grew from about 15 employees to nearly 100 over a 10-year period and was named a mid-size agency of a year by PR Week. Her focuses there included investor relations, financial communication and corporate communication. In 2011, Vahouny decided to launch a new career as an entrepreneur and professor, starting her own firm and joining the faculty of two universities. Her communications consulting firm has grown rapidly and her client base includes corporate, government and non-profit clients ranging from privately held firms to large, global organizations. She also spends a significant amount of time on pro-bono work and charitable, non-profit endeavors.
Her practice is focused on leadership communication; this includes communications coaching and workshops for executives, as well as communications consulting in the areas of change management, mergers and acquisitions, and internal and external communication. Specific services include key message development, branding and rebranding, communication audits and plans, and business communication services ranging from executive speeches and presentations, investor conference calls, and website and collateral development. The combination of her investor relations background, P&L experience, MBA and teaching
credentials are especially useful in bringing a business and results-oriented focus to her consulting clients. Vahouny is chairman of the National Endowment for Financial Education and is a former executive board member of the International Association of Business Communicators and the Washington chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute.
